About Konomic
Konomic is a privacy-first online PDF toolkit. We believe working with documents should be fast, free, and never require you to hand over sensitive information to someone who will mine it, sell it, or feed it into an AI training pipeline.
What we build
Konomic offers 30+ free online PDF tools: merge, split, compress, edit, convert, sign, OCR, redact, protect, and more. Everything runs in your browser with no installation, no account required for basic features, and no ads. Advanced features — large files, team workspaces, AI chat with PDFs, the developer API — are available on paid plans starting at $4.99/month.
The core product is engineered around three principles: speed (operations finish in under 10 seconds), privacy (files are encrypted in transit and deleted within 1 hour), and accessibility (everything works on mobile, tablet, desktop, and Chromebook).
Our approach to privacy
Most online PDF tools treat your documents as a data source to be monetized. We do not. Here is exactly what happens when you upload a file to Konomic:
- The file travels to our servers over an SSL/TLS encrypted connection.
- It is written to temporary storage with strict access controls.
- The requested operation (merge, compress, OCR, etc.) runs in an isolated worker process.
- You download the result.
- A scheduled job deletes both the input and output files within 1 hour.
We never sell or share your files with third parties. We never use your documents to train AI models. We do not scrape content for analytics. We are GDPR compliant and our servers are located in the European Union.
Who we serve
Konomic is used by:
- Students and researchers — merging papers, extracting pages, converting PDFs to Word for notes

- Lawyers and paralegals — redaction, Bates numbering, large-file compression

How we make money
Konomic is self-funded. We earn revenue from paid subscriptions (Pro and Business plans) — not from advertising, affiliate links, tracking, or reselling customer data. This alignment matters: when users pay us, our incentive is to make the product better, not to harvest more information.
Languages
Konomic is fully localized in English, Russian, and Spanish. OCR supports an additional 7+ languages including French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic. We are open to adding more — if you would like to see your language supported, email us.
Technology
Under the hood, Konomic runs on Python (FastAPI) and Next.js 16, with Celery workers for async processing, PyMuPDF and pdf-lib for PDF manipulation, Tesseract 5 for OCR, and Llama 3.3 via Groq for AI features. The frontend is deployed as a Next.js standalone build. We self-host on a hardened VPS in the EU.
